The Rhythm is My Blanket
The Rhythm is My Blanket is a groundbreaking radio play created in collaboration with the NCTSN Center on the Treatment of Developmental Trauma Disorders and New Zenith Productions. The play centers on clinical sessions with a Black youth confined in a locked psychiatric facility for violent behavior, using rap, rhythm, and Hip Hop culture to reveal how conventional clinical approaches can overlook the realities and resilience of youth from diverse racial and cultural backgrounds. The RMB challenges audiences to confront cultural barriers in care to integrate the voices of those most often misunderstood within treatment systems. The RMB highlights the need to treat all people receiving mental health care as the complex individuals that they are by centering care on their perspectives and by respecting, honoring, and including any and all aspects of their diverse backgrounds so they may be better engaged, understood, and helped.
