We present a vision for maltreatment science based on rigorous methods that enable the discovery of the predictive and causal knowledge that can be used by practitioners to determine a child’s risk and to select the  interventions to reduce such risk and to alleviate suffering. We present several research studies that employed such methods, including Machine Learning Predictive Classification and Causal Data Science.
